Pricing guide

How much does a marketing
agency cost in 2026?

Every pricing model in the market, with real ranges — and the reason almost nobody publishes them.

A digital marketing agency costs 8,000–60,000 NOK per month in the Nordics in 2026, depending on how many channels are included. Hourly rates run 800–2,000 NOK and defined projects 30,000–400,000 NOK. Smaller engagements covering one channel start around 8,000–15,000 NOK a month; full-service across search, paid media and analytics runs 35,000 NOK and up. Our own retainers are 12,900–49,900 NOK a month, published in full.

The in-house row is the comparison most buyers forget to make: one specialist salary plus overhead, against a team.

Why so few agencies publish prices

The standard argument is that every engagement differs, which is true and does not prevent publishing a range. The real reason is that a published price can be compared, and comparison is uncomfortable when the number is set by what a client will bear rather than by the work. Roughly one agency in four in this market publishes a real figure. Google's AI Overviews increasingly quote the ones that do.

Agency or in-house?

One mid-level marketing hire costs roughly 45,000–75,000 NOK a month once salary, employer contributions, tools and management time are counted. That buys one person's skill set. The same money at an agency buys fractions of several specialists and no recruitment risk — but you lose the deep product knowledge that only sitting inside the company gives you. Most companies eventually do both.

  • In-house is better for product depth, brand voice and speed of internal decisions.
  • An agency is better for specialist range, tooling and pattern recognition across many companies.
  • Below roughly 25,000 NOK a month, an agency is almost always the better value.

What should be in the contract

Three things are worth insisting on regardless of who you hire. A clear separation of media budget from agency fee. A notice period you can actually live with — three months is normal, twelve is not. And ownership of the accounts and data: your Google Ads account, your analytics property, your documentation, staying with you when the engagement ends.

The question worth asking first

Not what it costs, but what a new customer is worth to you. An agency fee of 25,000 NOK a month is expensive if your average order is 800 NOK and cheap if it is 80,000 NOK. Any agency that cannot have that conversation before quoting is selling hours rather than outcomes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a digital marketing agency cost per month?

8,000–60,000 NOK a month in the Nordics, depending on how many channels are included. One channel sits at the bottom of that range, full service at the top. Ours are 12,900, 24,900 and 49,900 NOK.

Is it cheaper to hire in-house?

Not usually below about 25,000 NOK a month. A single mid-level hire costs 45,000–75,000 NOK a month fully loaded and gives you one skill set; the same budget at an agency gives you several specialists part-time.

What should a company spend on marketing?

The common rule of thumb is 5–15 percent of revenue, higher when you are trying to grow fast or fighting for share. Below roughly 15,000 NOK a month in total, neither ad algorithms nor organic visibility get enough signal to take hold.

Should I pay a percentage of ad spend?

We would advise against it. It pays the agency more when you spend more, regardless of return, and makes the sometimes-correct advice to spend less cost them money. A flat fee aligns the incentives.

What is a reasonable contract length?

Three months is standard and reasonable, because nothing meaningful can be judged in less. Twelve-month lock-ins without a break clause are worth pushing back on.
